The Types Of Therapist

Clinicians Who Conduct Therapy

PMH-CNS providers are advanced practice registered nurses with specialized training in psychiatric and mental health care, licensed to provide both therapy and clinical interventions. They combine evidence-based psychotherapy, comprehensive assessments, and holistic support to help individuals achieve lasting mental wellness.

LCSWs hold a Master of Social Work degree and are trained in delivering psychotherapy using evidence-based approaches. They diagnose mental health disorders and operate primarily in therapeutic roles, advocating for clients and engaging in individual and community interventions.

Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) hold advanced degrees in counseling or mental health fields and are fully licensed to provide therapy in their respective states. They are trained in evidence-based techniques to support individuals, couples, and families in achieving mental wellness.

Quality Driven Care

Our providers are committed to evidence-based care, using validated assessment tools, personalized treatment planning, and valid pharmacologic evidence. This involves evidence-based psychotherapy, patient education, outcome measurement, and a focus on collaboration and ongoing education.

Adhering to evidence-based care ensures that clinical decisions and interventions are based on the best available research, enhancing the quality and effectiveness of mental healthcare.

Compassionate Care For All

Psychotherapy, also known as therapy or counseling, has proven beneficial for many individuals. Typically short-term, this treatment focuses on addressing thoughts, feelings, and life issues. While reflecting on past experiences can be helpful in some instances, the primary focus is on developing coping strategies and preparing for future challenges.

Compassionate Therapy for Personal Growth

Therapy is a structured process where the therapist and client work together to explore concerns, develop coping strategies, and set goals. The session aims to provide support, facilitate personal growth, and address specific issues, creating a collaborative environment for achieving goals.

Therapy provides a wide range of benefits, including improved mental health, enhanced emotional well-being, better relationship skills, personal growth, enhanced coping mechanisms, support during difficult times, increased self-esteem and confidence, behavioral change, improved life satisfaction, support for mental health conditions, prevention of future issues, a safe and confidential space, and consideration of the whole- person.

During a therapy session, the therapist and the client engage in several key activities to facilitate the therapeutic process and address the client's needs. Here's an overview of what typically happens during a therapy session:

SETTING THE STAGE

  • Welcoming and Rapport Building: The therapist creates a comfortable and welcoming environment to help the client feel at ease. Building rapport and establishing trust is crucial for effective therapy.
  • Review of Previous Sessions: If applicable, the therapist may review progress and any key points or homework from previous sessions.

DISCUSSING CURRENT ISSUES

  • Identifying Concerns: The client shares any current issues, challenges, or concerns they are facing. This may involve discussing recent events, emotions, or thoughts.
  • Setting Goals: The therapist and client may set or review goals for the session, focusing on specific issues or objectives to address.

EXPLORATION AND ASSESSMENT

  • Exploring Feelings and Thoughts: The therapist helps the client explore their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors related to their concerns. This may involve discussing past experiences, current stressors, or patterns of behavior.
  • Assessment and Diagnosis: If needed, the therapist may conduct assessments to better understand the client's mental health, including using standardized tools or questionnaires.

THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTIONS

Introducing Techniques: The therapist may introduce therapeutic techniques or interventions based on the client's needs. These might include:

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques: Challenging and changing negative thought patterns.
  • Mindfulness and Relaxation: Techniques to manage stress and increase emotional regulation.
  •  Solution-Focused Strategies: Identifying practical solutions to specific problems.
  • Emotion Regulation: Strategies for managing intense emotions.
  •  Skill Building: The therapist may work with the client to develop new skills or coping strategies, such as communication skills, problem-solving techniques, or coping mechanisms for managing anxiety.

DISCUSSION AND REFLECTION

  • Feedback and Reflection: The therapist may provide feedback on the client's progress and discuss insights gained during the session. This includes reflecting on what worked well and areas that may need further exploration.
  • Reviewing Homework: If the therapist assigned homework or tasks between sessions, they will review the client's progress on these activities and discuss any challenges encountered.

PLANNING AND GOAL SETTING

  • Setting Goals: The therapist and client may set goals for the next session or outline action steps for the client to work on before their next visit.
  • Creating an Action Plan: They may develop a plan for addressing ongoing issues or implementing strategies discussed during the session.

 ENDING THE SESSION

  •  Summarizing: The therapist will summarize the key points of the session, including any insights gained and the action steps planned.
  • Scheduling: The client and therapist will schedule the next appointment and discuss any preparations needed for the upcoming sessions.
  • Closure: The session ends with a focus on providing support and encouragement, ensuring the client feels ready to move forward until the next meeting.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND DOCUMENTATION

  • Maintaining Confidentiality: The therapist ensures that all discussions remain confidential, adhering to ethical and legal standards.
  •  Documentation: The therapist records notes from the session, including observations, treatment plans, and progress updates, while maintaining client confidentiality.

Common therapy goals include:

  • Making sense of past painful events
  • Identifying triggers
  • Overcoming fears or insecurities
  • Coping with stress
  • Getting healthier
  • Having better relationships
  • Understanding why something bothers you and creating a plan to deal with it
  • Quitting smoking and stopping drug and alcohol use

There is a wide range of psychotherapy techniques available to clients. Popular types of psychotherapy, as well as some of the conditions they treat, are listed below:

  • Interpersonal Therapy: depression, eating disorders, addiction
  • Mentalization-Based Therapy: BPD
  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: anxiety disorders and depression, as well as BPD

Frequently Asked Questions

Psychotherapy is a patient-centered modality that uses a compassionate approach to help clients identify strengths and triggers and develop appropriate coping mechanisms.

  • Every psychotherapy program is different and depends on the unique characteristics and needs of the patient. This approach allows the patient and therapist to find the best answer for the patient's needs.

Teletherapy is an important branch in the growing field of Telehealth. It allows clients to access care remotely, rather than in their therapist's office, by meeting with their therapist via teleconferencing—clients who participate in teletherapy experience the same benefits as an in-person visit.

  • Teletherapy also allows for consultation with others involved in the patient's care. As a result, surveyed clients who participated in telemedicine reported receiving quality-driven, reliable care. In addition, they found that they could keep their appointments more regularly.

EPH Mental Health Services provides treatment for a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, Trauma, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, mood disorder, personality disorder among others.

  • We provide services to private-pay clients. Private-pay clients are required to make payment before starting the visit.
  • Call or email us to discuss fees and continuous treatment discounts. We make it convenient for you to access the care you need online.

It is important to note that we accept all major insurance. However, this depends on cost-sharing, deductibles, and visit limitations. The cost for an uninsured or self-pay new patient consultation and follow-up visits is provided below.

  • New patient visits are $160
  • Follow-up visits are $120
  • Re-establish visits are $120 ( more than one year since the last visit)
  • Any visit of more than three years is considered a new patient appointment.

Clients can reach their provider using the message link to complete paperwork and reminders. Clients can reply to the emails, or SMS they receive, and their responses will appear in the provider's secure messaging portal. Likewise, any responses from your provider are delivered in the same manner. However, if you do not hear back from your provider, contact the practice so that we can reach out to your provider. There is also an after-hours line with provider coverage.
